How PavingPrice calculates your estimate

Two driveways on the same street can cost very different amounts. Size, layout, base work and surface material all matter, so an estimate based on your own driveway is more useful than a statewide average.

When you enter your address, we outline your driveway on aerial imagery and calculates its square footage and edge length. You can redraw the outline to leave out a patio or include the apron. We then price each item separately from an itemized price book for the service you need: sealcoating, resurfacing or full replacement.

Things that can't be seen from above, like base condition or buried ledge, appear as allowances. Our partner contractor measures on site and confirms the final price in writing.

Pricing factors

What affects driveway cost?

Driveway size

Most line items are priced per square foot of driveway, so size is the biggest driver. We measure yours from aerial imagery.

Layout

Curves, loops and multiple sections take more hand work at the edges than a straight run.

Base work

A regraded base costs less than excavating and installing a new, deeper gravel base — but a good base is what keeps a driveway from cracking.

Surface material

Asphalt, concrete and pavers differ a lot in price. Thickness and the number of asphalt layers matter too.

Removal and disposal

Breaking up and hauling away the old driveway. Thicker or multiple old layers add cost.

Sealing scope

For sealing, the number of coats, crack filling and oil-spot priming set the price.

Site conditions

Drainage problems, soft soil, ledge or tight access can change the scope. The contractor confirms these on site.

FAQs

Driveway pricing questions.

How much does a new driveway cost in 2026?

Using PavingPrice's current price book, fully replacing a straight 800 sq ft asphalt driveway comes to about $8,800–$10,400. Smaller driveways cost less; curved or multi-section layouts cost more. Your own estimate uses your driveway's measured size.

How much does driveway resurfacing cost in 2026?

Resurfacing the same 800 sq ft driveway with a new asphalt layer comes to about $4,200–$5,000. It only works when the existing base is structurally sound; the contractor confirms that on site.

How much does driveway sealcoating cost in 2026?

Sealcoating the same 800 sq ft driveway, with crack fill and two coats, comes to about $400–$500.

Are sealcoating, resurfacing and replacement interchangeable?

No. They are three different scopes of work, not quality tiers. Sealcoating protects asphalt that is still in good shape, resurfacing puts a new surface on a sound base, and full replacement rebuilds a driveway with base or drainage problems.

How is my driveway price calculated?

We outline your driveway on aerial imagery with AI, calculate its square footage and edge length, then price each item from an itemized price book: removal and disposal, gravel base, asphalt or concrete, edges, apron and permits for replacement; cleaning, crack fill and sealcoat for sealing. There is no single price-per-square-foot shortcut.

How accurate is a preliminary estimate?

It's a planning number, not a quote. Cars, shade and trees can hide parts of a driveway, and base condition or buried ledge can't be seen from above, so some items are shown as allowances. Your final price may be higher or lower once the contractor measures on site.

Can I fix the driveway outline?

Yes. After we measure, you see the AI outline on the aerial photo and can drag its corners to leave out a patio or add the apron. Your price updates from your outline.
